Hey Everyone

I’m 3 months into owning my Taco and have a tire question. I bought the truck with Goodyear Wrangler Duratrack tires. These beasts have made my RWD grip in all the New England conditions, but the excessive road noise is, well, wearing on me. I don’t mind a little noise (like I had with my 4Runner which had Cooper Duck Commanders) but these monsters put out around 81 dbls at 45-50 mph. I love the look and performance but would like to find a quieter tire that’s similar. What suggestions would you guys have?

For now, adjust the tire pressure. What psi are you running?

Rotate them as well.

I run mine at 37 in front and 40 in rear. Less in the summer 34 front and 37 rear. That’s cold on those #’s
My brother runs his at 50 but I feel like that’s to much and he gets cupping wear from that PSI.
My KO2’s were quieter. These DuraTrac’s aren’t as loud as the nitto trail grapplers I had. Those were noisy.

Bfgs ko2s wear is nice I seem to have good even wear in a nice ride running cold pressure at 33 PSI or between 29 to 33
 
I can hear mine grip into the road which is nice and they're not really loud at all just loud after you get a lot of mud and rock debris but obviously you know it's from dirt to concrete you're getting all that splattered all off but otherwise quiet lol
 
I run Nitto Terra Grappler II 285/65X18 and they don't make too much noise. They actually are pretty quiet on the freeway at 65 mph. But just a little noise around 40 mph. Air pressure cold at 32. I use the truck mostly off road so gas mileage is not a concern. The price was right and they do the job for me. Kind of an all around tire for both on-off road.

mine get louder when I am braking hard, thus weight transfer to the front end.
so I would IMAGINE upping the psi a little (within reason) MAY help you.

we definately need a baseline tho, we are throwing ideas at a dart board. guessing tires being rotated and not knowing the actual psi.

what aftermarket parts are on the truck?
bumper, shell, bed cover, sliders, steps, toolbox? added weight should be compensated for

specs from what?
truck door jamb specs only pertain to oem tires if thats what you used.

35 sounds soft unless they are load range E tires, I hate low PSI tires as they are sluggish around corners.

the best way to determine ur correct PSI is by googling and doing the "chalk line tire test" I suppose, and then fine tune to your desire.
I guess Ive just had my truck long enough and watch my tire wear long enough to know 36-38 rear and 38-40 front for MY truck works like a charm.

duratracs are a large void tire..... they will make SOME noise but it shouldnt be overly loud. This is subjective however.
Keep manipulating psi and rotate them.
If those dont work for you, then u may have to spend some serious money and buy new tires.
Id rather play with PSI and have em rotated so you have a known good condition personally.............but ur truck, ur ears, ur money

got a pic of the tire tread from the side?
i want to see if they are wearing evenly

get us a few pics like this if u can, the more the better

My best recommendation: the duratrac's you have on, throw them on steelies. Get a nice pair of alloy wheels, and highway all season. This is only if, your budget allows this, and these tires are simply for road condition.
