Moto Metal 970’s

I have a 17 TRD Off Road. From what I gather the factory offset is +25 on the wheels. I have 30,000 miles on the factory tires which are actually wearing great. Been rotated every 5,000 miles. In the next few months my plan is to get the Moto Metal 16x8’s 0 offset with 265/75 Nitto Ridge Grapplers (not 100% set on the tires yet). I’ve used different tire size calculators and know they are 1” higher then factory. When I use one offset calculator it says the wheel will stick out 37mm (1.4”) further then factory. Another gives me .98”. Is one for how far the wheel will sit out and the other considering how far the wheel will stick out?

Im sure this horse has been beat to death numerous times and I apologize in advance. I may upgrade to a lift and 33” tires down the road.

What I’m trying to avoid is what my son did with his Ram 1500. His are -12 and stick out about 3”. I’m fine with an inch out but don’t want to go extreme due to vehicle inspections every year in PA.

Apparently Nitto makes the Ridge Grapplers in a 10 and a 4 ply. The shop I’ll be ordering from only appears to have the 10ply in stock, still waiting on an answer from them though. I’m assuming the 4ply will be less road noise. I don’t see much off-road use, just an occasional drive thru a field to grab a deer or through the snow covered roads that PennDot does an excellent job on. Haha

10 or 4 ply is the question.

The only reason you would need a 10 ply tire is if you are going to do a lot of heavy hauling or doing a lot of off-roading. Check the price difference and do some Googling on ride quality.

Save weight, your truck will appreciate it. Welcome!

After doing a lot of researching I contacted the local 4x4 shop in my area, Hoak’s 4 Wheel Drive Center. I was advised to go with a 17” wheel to clear the brake calipers better?? They also advised I will stick out about 1.5” compared to factory set up. Sounds good to me and there are actually better options in 17” compared to 16”. Nitto advised me to run the lesser ply tires and they do offer them in 265/70r17. I’m going to stop over Hoak’s and check out the selection they have on hand but was advised they can get Moto Metal. Thanks for all the help. I will post pictures when I’m all set up. Probably won’t be until the beginning of July.

Pic is the wheel I like. They don’t offer it in a 16”.

Different angle to show anybody interested how much the wheels set just outside the fender flares.
