What is the dealer book rate for a comprehensive timing belt replacement?

At the beginning of the week I posted my story of having a timing belt break on my 2003 Tacoma. I've been working on it all week now, running into problem after problem caused by the last mechanic to have worked on my truck. I'm in the finial leg of getting this done now, and should be driving...

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

Well tonight's update will be short. Been in the heat too long today, and I'm whipped! Water pump off, no worries there. Cleaned up the old gasket. Cleaned the studs that came out when I removed the thermostat housing. Blue loctite to hold them in better, and re-installed. New water pump...

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

In the off chance anyone is following my saga, here is the next installment: Today was much like yesterday - not a single thing was easy :frusty: Started off the day making a Harbor Freight run. Got an 1/2" drive Earthquake XT (on sale - yeah!), among other things to hopefully make things go...

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

Good idea - Going to add that to the list for when I do the injectors. Not sure how reliable they are, but found a set of 6 "OEM Quality" injectors for 100$ on ebay. Might have to give them a try. If they work, I save 660$ over local cost. If they don't, I have to buy new intake gaskets, and...

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

Well, it's been a very trying day! I did take a couple of pics, but not motivated right now to get out of my phone and uploaded. You'll understand why in a little bit. I'm not sure who the last owner of the truck had to replace the last timing belt, but man that "mechanic" must not own a...

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

Well the answer is .... timing belt. Old girl shredded it so fine it looked like a whole school of mice had made a nest at the level the heads meet the block. All I could do was peek inside the top of the timing belt cover on the side of the road as the engine was just too damn hot to take the...

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

Still had good voltage after it died, so don't think it was the alternator, but I'll give the battery a good charge as well and make sure that it's not a low voltage issue. Thanks for the idea.

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

Strong crank - was hard to hear on the side of the 4 lane interstate I broke down on. As time went on (and things cooled down) I tried a couple more times - hoping something was just hot. The crank speed slowed, but was still strong. Won't know till the AM if the belt is broken. Going to...

You must have been reading my mind - I was just looking into that!

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

I've had it for the last 135K miles, timing belt changed 104K ago, and on the list of things to do soon. I'm going to re-verify my initial peek that the belt is not broken in the AM. Thanks for the suggestion!

2003 Tacoma 3.4L Auto 4WD died while driving

Today while driving home from work, my '03 Tacoma just died while cruising along at 65 MPH. No noise, or other noticeable problems - it just died, and I coasted to a stop as quickly as I could to the shoulder. It has the 3.4 V6 engine in it, and automatic trans with 4WD trans case. Thinking the...
