Side steps for a short wife

I also have the N-Fab Rocks Rails, and one of the reasons I got them was because my wife is kind of short. I've had them on for 3 years and they still look like new.

    Need a little info

Not sure where you live, but Tacomas are prone to frame rust, so check it out carefully.

    Shocks/struts

I'd bet that the difference is one shock is for the 5 lug and the other one was for a Prerunner.

What type of lift should I buy?

Sounds to me like the OP's truck is a 5 Luger. Gonna be tough to lift it too much.

    New tires

As I mentioned, if you go to tirerack.com, put in your vehicle information and it will show you what tires will fit your truck. It even gives you the option of what they call 1 plus, which shows the next size tire. Although I drive a PreRunner, which is a 6 lug truck, I did a little research...

    New tires

With the 5 lug you're going to be limited on the size you can run. There are some questions that you'll need to answer. Is your truck lifted? What size wheels do you have? From what I've read, about the largest tire you can run on a stock 5 lug wheel is a 235/75-15. Go to tire rack.com, input...

    Lock and unlock problems

Do you have another key fob? If so, does it do the same thing?

    16'SR5 change to TRD rims?

If you go with a 265/70 series tire, it's the same height as the 245/75...well, within a fraction of an inch it is. Tire is wider and it looks good. That way you won't have to worry about your speedometer being off.

Paint easy to scratch and chip

Yes, they come with a clear coat. Problem is that today's water based paints don't stand up as well as the older paints.

Your opinion highway tires and valve sensors for wheels.

Sensors from steel wheels will indeed work with aluminum wheels...at least they will with the Toyota factory wheels. I just upgraded to a set of TRD Off Road wheels in March. The trick is that the sensors must be turned 180 degrees from their normal position.

    Lift tires gears

I think you might mean a "higher center of gravity."

    Disappointing v6

I think what he means by Magnuson blower is a supercharger, although I'm not sure they make a kit for the Tacoma. They make them for Tundras, Dodge Challengers and Chargers and for Chevys. If you go to taller tires, which will change your final drive ratio and a loss of power, you might...

    Lowering

XRunner is based on the discontinued 5 lug. PreRunner is based on 4X4 suspension, so not a lot of suspension components out there to lower the truck. Best bet to find info is to check out some specialty magazine like Mini Trucking. I don't read that particular magazine, but my guess is you'll...

    Nerf bars

Depends on what you're looking for. Do you you need them as steps, do you want to protect you're truck from door dings, do you do any off roaming,my hat sort of thing. Many members would say the best thing to get would be sliders, either bolt-on or weld-on. The old adage, "you get what you pay...

    Lost power.

You sure you didn't drain the transmission fluid instead of engine oil? And in response to the "where's the dipstick" question, it all depends. Not sure which truck you have but the 2nd gen 2.7 engines have a dipstick. It's my understanding that the 2nd and 3rd gen V6s don't have a dipstick.

Any thoughts on k&n air filters?

All filters suck...well, they don't, but the engines they're attached to do.

    Air intake

I've only had it on one truck. It was a 2005 F-150. I keep pretty meticulous records and saw absolutely no improvement in mileage. Never had it on a dyno so I can't say for certain, but other than the sound, I could tell no difference from the factory unit. I considered putting one on my...

    Air intake

Guys, do a little more research before you make the change. Because the K&N is an oiled filter, it can cause problems with the MAF sensor. In addition, while it may flow better, that comes at a price. Increased airflow also allows more dust particles into the engine. Don't fall for the...

    What to buy

I'm in the same boat with you on kids being grown and preferring the AC body over the double cab. I have a 2013 PreRunner with the 2.7/Auto. My son just bought a 2016 TRD Sport AC, and I have to admit, it's a lot quieter and more comfy than my truck. I've pulled a trailer from central Texas to...
