Removing and installing CV axle

I'm having a hard time removing the drivers side CV axle, and do you need to hammer them back in lightly? Trying to get my whole front end back together with all new parts, CV just are not very workable and I can't find anything anywhere about actually removing and installing.
 
I'm going to be doing my cv's next week. Haven't done them using those instructions, but they looked pretty good from my pre research. Please post any issues you run into as I'll likely encounter the same next week!
