Spare tire size

Alright gents, I’ve got what might be a stupid question but I’m throwing it out anyway; does the spare tire have to be the same size as the other four? Recently I went from 265/65 to the next size up, 265/70. A slight increase but an increase nevertheless. Obviously in the event of a flat I wouldn’t want to drive on the spare too long anyway but are there any particular issues that can happen driving with one tire smaller than the other three? Also, at what point in size increase does it become absolutely necessary to have your spare upsized as well? Thanks as always!

If you’re keeping it under 50mph and not driving long distances you should be fine. Unless you are off-roading and get a flat the spare should get you to the tire shop to fix the issue.
If you are an avid off-roader I would get a matching size spare.
