I  found out about Ballistol a few years ago at the Outdoor Show at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  I thought it was "snake oil"...  until the dealer gave men a small bottle to try.
Ballistol seems to aggressively remove is crud from firearms and copper in a gun barrel.  I would not use this stuff on  nickel plated firearms.  Read up on Ballistol... truly a great product with a 1000 uses.  Seems to work as a general lube of latches, hinges and a leather conditioner for my Tacoma's steering wheel.  I also use this product on my battery terminals.
