I've owned a couple VW cars and it seemed like more front end problems than anything but they did have 300k miles on them lol

My friend built a 74 vw thing custom tube chassis rock crawler and it has a jeep running gear ! I have to get a picture it's so cool ! Has the roll cage on the outside of the body.
