3rd gen MPG question

I’ve had my 17 trd sport for about 6 months now and never really payed attention to my gas usage. Just started paying attention and going to work early in the mornings, I’m getting around 17-19. But after work or on weekends I’m getting 11 mpg . I do live in so cal and it is hot this time of year and wondering if it’s the A/C killing my gas. 11 seems terrible to me. My truck does have a level kit with 265/70/R17. Is there anything else that could be causing bad gas mileage or is this normal. Only in the mornings I get decent gas mileage. View attachment 26970
Are you looking at the display for the trip summary? E4FA524C-CA52-417E-A525-31D1B80E70D0.jpeg
Because I could get 12.8 or less and I could get 24 or more on that.

Say you get off work and sit in your truck for a few minutes. Drive through town. Stop at multiple lights. Go through a drive thru. Get home sit in your driveway for a minute. That trip summary could be 9.7 mpg. You sat sat idle using gas not going anywhere.

I wouldn’t worry about your trip summaries on the dash display.

Do the hard math on it.
Fill up.
Set the trip A to 0000.
Drive normal until you need/want to fill up.
Fill up.
Here is the hard math.
Divid the miles you drove by the gallons you put in.
Example:
340 miles on trip A
18 gallons to fill
340/18=18.8888889

@Bogunn can check my math

That’s close but the actual number is 18.888888928482848282737282. But who’s being that precise about it? Lol

To work is only around 5 miles lol So when I’m driving normal to go shopping or whatever it may be. From point A to point B is always around 11 mpg. If I’m lucky and my destination is downhill I’ll get 13/15. But now that u mentioned it. When I’m in traffic idling with A/C cranking, I’ve seen it as low as 9, crazy!!! I expected I would never see anything lower than 16 mpg, average 18 and 20+ on highway.

I think that little drive to work is hurting the mpg's more than one would think. Slower speeds, traffic lights, etc. will net you very little. Also, those good looking wheel, and tires is gonna hurt you some also. With the mpg's you're getting on the highway (which is quite good for that truck), I would say you're in the normal city mpg range.

Disclaimer: This is all just my humble opinion. Someone could come along with more help than I. :)

Yes you are sir. We just returned from a road trip to the mid west. Your area included. I told the bride to pack up, we're movin'. :)
South Central Nebraska....straight roads....no hills.....sometimes you don't meet a car in 15 miles......counted 6 dead skunks on the road to work this am.....I'll take it over big city life any day!

Oh man I get it. I used to live in a small city. But, it's been sucked in by Charlotte. Damnit.........We have talked about running away many times, and this last trip out your way may have sealed the deal.
