So I was in 4×4 then I turned it off light kept flashing and didn't shut off till I drove a few feet but it sounded and felt like it was thrown back into drive is this normal???

Yes you've got to be moving for it to engage and disengage. The light will flash during both until it's done. You'll here it engage and disengage sometimes it's more pronounced than other times. Sounds normal to me.

I've had it engage hard and sounds like something broke but it never has and it still worked. Go check it, see if it turns on and off.
Was this the first time with this truck you've turned it on and off?

Totally normal. You could also find it gets "stuck" in low and you may need to put in in reverse to get it out. Most of the times mine transitions between 4x2 and 4x4 smooth as silk, but sometimes thing just don't line up as well and it will be a bit more rough.

Here's my shifting procedure I've come up:

To shift into 4wd you must be rolling forward and not turning. Left off the throttle and select 4wd high.

For low you must be in high already because a direct shift to low will rarely go in. Stop, hold the brake (auto) or clutch (manual), shift into neutral (auto) and select 4wd low. Shifting out is the reverse.

Sounds like it was wound up. Reverse like a foot next time. It's better I'm told on locker
Doesn't matter reverse or forward. The locker and 4wd is locked in either direction.
I think he was talking about unlocking it... Sometimes it will unlock easier when "wound up" if you put it into reverse for like a foot and that he's heard it's better for the locker if you unlock it that way.

I get what he meant. Driveline bind occurs from the wheels trying to turn at different speeds, not direction of travel. You could add to the binding by going in reverse. The backing up method comes from the old auto hub days

Ive done the reverse trick getting my first gen manual hubs to unlock. Get out turn the knob get in reverse and then go. Never had to worry about it with any of my auto locking ones. Always seems to slip in and out of 4wd.

It’s 4X4 wind-up. Make sure your on a surface that allows give on tires and drive train. This should help. Also, slow down, if light stays blinking. Put in reverse and move about a foot. I bet it re/disengages.
