4th Gen Tacoma

I understand that there aren't too many 4th-gen Tacoma owners on this forum who care to discuss the particulars of these new models.
That said, is there enough interest to start a thread solely to discuss modifications, improvements, and characteristics relative only to the 2024+ Tacoma's? IMG_0949cpy.JPG
 
Imo, toyota brought back the gen1 tundra....modernized it to meet the epa specs of today, and now call it a tacoma. In reality its a baby tundra.
 
Just came back from a local toyota dealer after taking a test drive in a new gen4 taco. They're a nice riding truck, with slightly more low end than my current gen3 puts out. Overall, auto transmission shifting felt similar just a couple more gears. The led screen is humungous, first thing I noticed sitting in the cab, plus the seating was better in this truck vs the gen3. Other than that I'm not giving up my gen3 for one anytime soon.
 
While I didn't check out the gen4 tailgates....they remind me of being stolen off a gmc canyon.
These older gen3 tacoma tailgates are so light, I swear they feel like made from tinfoil. I could see a motorized tailgate on a full size truck, but it certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker on these taco's. My wife has never mentioned the tailgate when using my truck a few times. Come to think of it....I don't think she's ever tried using it.
 
My wife uses mine all the time to put her kayak in. She hates the skewp though it makes it hard to see in front parking so we'll usually back into park no biggie

Yeah, I use the rear camera all the time when backing into a tight parking place. It's about the most useful tech in the truck....make parking child's play. I wish my old tundra came with one. I could do without the rest of the nanny bs these trucks now have.

just get her into a clean cool classic vintage gen1 stock taco and it would be a non-issue
no dumb as azz big hood to peek over to see in the front
no backing issues into tight spots either

one of these gen4 recently pulled in front of me at the light whilst behind the gen2 wheel
my only comment was.... ewwww :( that nasty
 
I am working with a guy today his son is a Toyota mechanic here in Cape Cod he said the new Tacoma's are junk ! You couldn't give him one for free ! WTF ? He said the tranny's are failing and the motors suck and are really noisy.plus the plastic interior is cheesey. :(
 
Well thats one opinion. I test drove one recently. The automatic was fine for an 8 speed. It goes through a lot of gears to get up to speed, but it's smooth. The entire truck rides nicer than any gen3 4wd. There's nothing wrong with the engine except a slightly noticeable turbo lag if lugging it at a slow speed then having to put the hammer down. Otherwise for a 4 banger its moves out slightly snappier than my 3.5 v6 taco, plus its not any noisier. I didn't try the 4wd system. I assume it works just like my gen3. I get the feeling your guy is full of s**t. Imo, its the cost thats the main issue their not selling as well. I was told by the dealer here that the the base price for a 2025 tacoma's will rise $750-1k more.

Btw jay...I keep confusing them for a new tundra every time I see one I'm coming up on, Don't know why, but its happened several times to me already.

I would think he would know first hand since he works on them and has done over a hundred frame changes so i say hes a pretty seasoned mechanic since hes been there over 15 years .id take his word over 1 test drive
