77,777 milestone

Just came in from a test drive in a buddies 2022 certified tacoma sport he recently bought to find out what he's whining about.
Well, he may have a couple issue's...his transmission isn't as smooth, and precise as mine, plus the truck feels logy...you press the gas pedal down, and there's almost no response till it gets 1/3 way down. His truck just feels slow vs mine. I let him drive my 2020 access cab. He said that it felt like his old 4.3 chevy just with way more hp up top....now feels something with his taco is definitely amiss.
He's going to bring the truck back to the dealer to see if anything could be improved....I told him I'll back him up with my truck if they give you a hard time saying all is normal.

(1) I bought a 2012 with 140k miles on it 4 years ago for $14k and 25 days later I bought the 2008 with 83k miles also for $14k. Sold the 2012 to my son who now has 198k trouble free miles on it. (2) Although I am not crazy about the speedway blue color I have no plans of modding the paint. I do plan on getting the flares repainted as the clear is started to fail on them. (3) Been retired 5 years. I drive it 4 or 5 days a week but mostly within 5 or 10 miles. No more road trips. We live in VA and have a place in FL. We have a car there so we take air trips instead of road trips. (4) I had a 2016 blue Sport for over 5 years. I didn't care for painted bumpers and always liked the real steel chrome bumpers on 2nd gen trucks.

Regarding the 22 truck mentioned by tacojoel you hit the nail on the head. Driving a 2nd gen shows you that 2nd gens feel like better quality than 3rd gens. The ONLY thing I miss about my 3rd gen was the much better 18/25 mpg that it got. I do not miss the way-too-many dealer visits for warranty/RECALL/TSB service. Sold mine at 5.5 years and only 25k miles. It was built December 2015 and I believe that was a Toyota 'bring your drugs to work' week. When the warranty expired I knew it was time to dump it and go back to 2nd gens. My 2008 with 90k miles, and my sons 2012 with 198k miles, both run, drive and shift just as good, if not better, than my 2016 did with 25k miles.

I have owned enough Toyota trucks to know which are the best.taco combo red to 50.jpg

I never had a gen2 tacoma, or drove one to say it was better, or worse than my current gen3 2020, but I can't fathom the gen2 being better than my 2020. That gen3 is better than any truck ever owned, and I thought my gen1 tundra was very good. It shows me toyota can still build an awesome truck....it's just a crap shoot like our domestics getting a good one.

gen2 tacoma is better than gen3 for the SIMPLE FACT that there was a little single cab with 4wd available if you so desire...
if ONLY that v6 was put into the single cab that would be KING
and would NOT start crapping out in D up the hilly trying to maintain 75mph out of the valley
manual transmission may or may not do similar IDK
