I think the Ranger will hopefully heat up Toyota’s sense of urgency to improve the automatic transmission & low end grunt in the Tacoma. I find on long trips it takes more pedal modulation than I would like to maintain consistent speeds. With that said, if you step on the gas it will go, and it will go fast. The BIG no go on the Ranger for me is Ford’s relablity issues, and yes I’ve owned several Ford’s and the lack of a standard sized bed 6ft, if you go with a king cab. As far as opinions go, I find the styling inside & out lack luster despite some improvements in the creature features over a Tacoma. Still very happy with my Tacoma six months in and 6K on the odometer.

I hardly ever use 6 th gear in my truck and always drive in s mode . Even on highway and mpg is so close between the 2 gears and I don't get gear hunting

Its like the ECT mode but you get 5th instead of 4 th.
