Gas tank size

Recently picked up a 2021 TRD Off-road crew cab long bed. I did my research and found it had a 21.1 gallon tank. At the low end of the EPA estimates (18mpg) I thought I might get around 370 miles per tank. I am lucky if I get 320 miles per fill up.

Even worse, on my last fill up, the computer said I would only go 276 until empty!

Besides that, I have never been able to put more than 18.5 gallons in even when I ran it down near zero on purpose.

I am very disappointed. My truck is completely stock. My driving is 70/30% city/highway. I was expecting to get closer to 400+ on a road trip?

Am I lost here. Please discuss

Your gas light will kick on with 3-4 gal of gas left so you’re actually only using about 18 gal of gas out of the 21gal by the time the light turns on. You’d have to drive another 60 miles with the gas light on to get over 20 gal put in at the pump.
To get the actual MPG you divide the mileage by how many gal you put in at the pump. Not divide the mileage by 21.1.
320/18 is about 17 mpg. 70%city 30% hwy mixed diving that’s not bad for a Tacoma.

My gas mileage is all over the place, I've seen as high as 26 to low of 9. Granted the low was when I got into it and was at 6000 rpm but I quit worring about it. When it gets low, I fill it up. Be Happy.

Its not terrible for a truck...i've been getting around 23 mpg. Usually it reads 381-405 miles after i fill up. These truck seem to be all over the place depending how you drive, or how the truck is used.

That and geography. If you live where there is no hills or mountains and lots of open country roads that are flat you’ll get better mpg. If you have mt and lots of hills in the city while stop and go driving it will get crap MPG.

Its kind of hilly where i am, just under the taconic and berkshires. For a mid side 4wd truck its alway been decent on fuel. My 2001 4.7 tundra, not so much. It was a gasaholic.

Yea my 03 tundra got 15 everywhere .my taco gets 18-20 round town 23 ish on highway .and im always got my foot in 'er! :) and drive in smode never use 6 even on highway it hunts and kicks down to much .and use ECT MODE much better shift points.:)

Don't sweat the miles till empty readings. Around town driving mine always says 333 miles after a fill up.

I've been driving a lot back and forth from Florida to Ohio the past month. Usually drive 80 to 90 MPH, and most of the time after a fill up it would read around 389 miles to empty.

I have a 2020 Taco Limited and when I went from Georgia to Florida I got around 450 miles in one tank. Highway mostly. Driving habits will definitely effect the MPG. One way I drove 85 MPH mostly and got about 420 miles. Then, on the way back I drove 70 MPH and got a little more than 450 MPG. Not sure why you are getting such low mileage. City I tend to get between 18 and 20 MPG.

Not sure why you are getting. Such low mileage. I have a 2020 Taco Limited and In the city I tend to get between 18-20 MPG. In the highway when I take a trip it jumps up to 22 -23 MPG. Took a trip from Georgia to Florida and got about 430 miles total on the way there. On the way back drove 70 MPH instead of 80 and got a little over 450 miles total. This shows that driving habits will definitely effect the mileage but it still seems kind of low on your truck.

By the way each time you fill up the tank, the computer will read the Expected MPG based on the last gas tank usage. So as you start driving after the fill up it will change the MPG average continually based on usage, speed, acceleration etc.
