Importing Trucks from China – Need Suggestions!

Hello everyone.

We’re looking to import trucks from China for our growing logistics and transport business. The three brands we’ve shortlisted are SHACMAN, HOWO/Sinotruk, and FAW, as they are well-known for their durability and cost-effectiveness. However, we need guidance on which one offers the best balance between affordability and performance.

If you’ve purchased trucks from any of these brands, how was your experience? Which brand holds up better for long-haul transport? We need fuel-efficient and reliable models that won’t break down frequently. Also, we’re open to customized options if any manufacturer offers tailored solutions for our business.

Additionally, we’d love to hear about the import process, any challenges you faced, and the level of after-sales support provided.

If there’s a Chinese supplier you’d personally recommend, please share.

From my experience, all three — SHACMAN, SINOTRUK/HOWO, and FAW — can be solid choices, but the “best” option usually comes down to your routes, payloads, and how disciplined your maintenance program is.

SHACMAN

  • Often spec’d with stronger driveline options
  • Good reputation in heavy construction and quarry applications
  • Slightly higher upfront cost in many markets, but tough for harsh roads

SINOTRUK / HOWO

  • Very competitive pricing versus payload and engine options
  • Widely available parts in most developing markets
  • A reasonable balance between cost, fuel efficiency, and long-haul durability if maintained properly

FAW

  • Lighter configurations in some models, which can help fuel economy
  • Works well for mixed city/highway operations
  • Quality depends a lot on the dealer network where you operate

For long-haul logistics, I would focus more on:

  • availability of parts and service locally
  • engine/transmission specs vs. your average payload
  • fuel consumption at cruising speeds
  • after-sales support and warranty responsiveness

If you are running heavier loads over rough roads, SHACMAN usually holds up well. If you need a more cost-effective fleet with acceptable reliability, HOWO tends to be attractive. FAW can be efficient if payloads are lighter and roads are better.

There’s also a good comparison overview discussing SHACMAN vs. SINOTRUK that may help frame the decision (not salesy, more informational):

Import-wise, expect the usual challenges: compliance paperwork, port handling, PDI inspections, and making sure the specs actually match your local regulations. Having a supplier who can support parts and documentation after delivery matters more than saving a few thousand dollars up front.

Curious what gross weights you usually run and what terrain you operate in — that will narrow it down a lot.
