I got a mailing from Toyota offering me this service for $80.

The advert claims it will "restore performance and maintain full economy, free sticky throttle bodies from carbon build-up, and remove moisture from the fuel line and gas tank.

What's this all about, and do I need it for a truck running just fine???

I always pass on these bait ads. Anyone can spray and clean the valve body and dump dry gas into the fuel tank. If your vehicle wants to die while idling but runs okay under power then the valve body needs cleaned. The carbon builds up and prevents the damper from complete closing and let's air into the system . Its leans the mixture causing the rough idle.

Ever since they mandated e10 fuels here i have to say the intake systems on our vehicles have been spotless. When it was mtbe's added to the fuels it wasn't long before developing a black scum inside the throttle bodies.
