Jay, I understand you have tacoma's from every gen except the 3rd. I know you've been grumbling about all the gen2 plastic's, and lately the worn out gen1 making strange noises, but how's the new gen4 been treating you, seeing there's more videos of them you've posted, than new gen4's on the road I've seen so far.

i dunno if i would wheel one if they give to me one at zero cost

hood a bit too big and obtrusive
that is just the start o_O o_O o_O

Well, I got to take a test ride in one while my brother had an oil change done on his rave4 the other week. Thats another load of bs with the hood being too big. Imo, it was fine, similar to my old gen1 tundra, and gen3 tacoma. I had no problems driving the truck in traffic, or short trip down the highway. There's a very slight turbo lag when going slow up a hill, and then needing to punch it when in traffic, otherwise the truck moves out a little better than my gen3. I had zero issues parking it whether going forward, or reverse. It's the same as my gen3 in that respect.
I could care less with all the electronics, and large screen these gen4's now have, same as the electronic's for my gen3.
The gen4 rides noticeably smoother than my gen3....that alone toyota nailed it. As far as cab noise its about the same.
Would it want to make me trade in my low mileage gen3.....no. There's just not a whole lot of performance differences between the two that would make me fork over another $13K more to get the same basic truck I now have.

Overall imo jay....stop posting gen4 bs. They are not the evil taco you keep making them out to be, only the cost $$ of ownership is.

Are U saying that the hood is easier to prop that open at stock height than 4wd gen2 is at stock?

I've not had a gen2, but the hood on my gen3 is fairly heavy vs my gen1 tundra. I don't have any issues popping the hood fully open on my own tacoma. Idk about the gen4, never tried it, but I can't fathom it being any different, if anything toyota would build it lighter. Imo, opening a hood wouldn't be high on my list not to buy a vehicle.

how do you properly keep an eye on the oil level if there is difficulty raising and supporting the hood with the prop
or do these have those gas shock hood struts whatever they called?

For gods sake this is 2024 with newer high tech engines, I haven't checked my trucks engine oil level since I last changed it just a week short of a year ago. The engine doesn't touch a drop of oil when I've done past oil changes. I can install drill less hood struts if needed for my truck. but why bother there're not needed imo....hood has a prop already to keep it open. I'm not one that needs to see whats under the hood everyday. I would guess if toyota saw a need to constantly monitor whats under the hood, they'd make it easy enough to open the hood.
These are not your grandpa's old chevy, or fords trucks anymore.

Another moron that thinks his new truck comes with break-in oil. Actually these 4th gen turbo's like to bake their motor oil, and should be changed every 4k-5k miles. Gone is the old v6.

For one, takes longer for rings to seat using synthetic oil. Adding fresh synthetic oil isn't helping the rings seat. 2nd...turbo's run very hot. They will cook the oil if not idled down for a minute before shutting the engine off.

Does the dealership you buy one of these from instruct the buyer on this method?

Idk, you tell me, you seem to be more interested with the 4th gen. I can only tell you that engines with turbo's need to do this.

I'll be keeping my 2016 for a long long time my coworkers son is a mechanic at at Toyota dealer here and he said the 2024 Tacos are POS !!!! Bad transmissions auto or standards and the engine isn't any great thing to write home about. Noisey and really flimsy plastic interior ! He's changed many engines, trannnys of each already ! Not impressed. He said he'd rather have a new Ranger !

Pretty much the opposite I hear from a friend that works at a local toyota dealer here, Granted from what I've been told they haven't seen, or sold many of these 4th gen tacoma's to date yet, but told me for the most part they've been trouble free. They still have some sort of brake recall fix thats holding up sales I was told. I took a test ride in a 4th gen months ago, their a nice truck riding noticeably more compliant when empty than my 3rd gen. Power from the start can feel a bit soft for a second, or so till that turbo spools up...then it's off to the races running strong. Imo, the 4th gen isn't enough to make me trade up seeing how good my 3rd gen runs. I will say if I needed a truck I'd take a hard look at one.
All in all, I guess if one is biased toward the older gens, I could see where they're coming from. When I took that test ride I tried to do it with an open mind.

It's funny how things work with Toyota. I have owned over 50 vehicles in my life . The BIGGEST PROBLEMATIC POS that I ever owned was a 2016 Sport. It was a DEC 2015 build and it was in the shop for repairs more than any other vehicle I ever owned. I am still seeing reports of AT failures in the 4th gen even into the 2025 models. As far as comparing a 4th gen to a Ranger they are similar in the 4 cylinder engine noise department. When my 3rd gen was in the shop I seriously considered a Ranger. One test drive changed my mind. I felt like the engine and transmission were more responsive and had better power than my 3.5/AT however I hated the engine noise. I feared that the 4 cylinder would never have the longevity of a V6. I still feel that way about 4 banger turbo engines. I sold my 2016 Sport with 25k miles when the 5 year warranty ran out. Have been in 2nd gens since 2021 and will only buy V6 2nd gens from now on. Just note that the 1st 2 year models of the 3rd gen were the most troublesome. Most issues were resolved starting in 2018 yet I still see some of the same problems arising in 2022 and 2023 models.

My 2020 was built in Texas like I requested. Something about vehicles made in mexico seem to always end up with more issues, plus I don't like sending money to mexico when it should go to our u.s citizens, and spent here. At any rate, it's been the best truck so far I've had, and I've had a few since the 60's. Been told I have a unicorn after the dealer recently took it for a test drive to compare against another 2022 tacoma trd sport that a friend brought in for drivability issues. I guess somehow my truck got built the way it was suppose to be, and not perform in a wonky manner like many others.
Idk...the engine noise those turbo 4's make don't bother me...they're a truck. Real trucks all make noises of some sort.
