K and N. Air intake

It'll sound louder in the cab to you when driving. I always put some kind of aftermarket intake on whatever I have. With a bit larger diameter exhaust. You can say NO all you want Mike , but, this can only be proven or disproved with the truck on a dyno ! I'm not wasting my time doing that unless I build another 800 HP at the rear wheels Duramax!

Truck came in with it. I googled it and it usually has a air box around it.
True. With the air box in place it influences intake air to be drawn in through the opening in the quarter panel, hence "cold air" intake. I am only assuming with out the air box it would be able to draw some/mostly warm air from within the engine compartment therefor defeating somewhat one of the objectives with a K & N.
Benefits of a K&N or an AFE in my case...... I had an AFE installed and dyno tested on my 7.3 diesel. I was not overly impressed with the results in this particular engine however I did receive positive change. You have an existing K&N so you benefit from not having to purchase air filters over and over now.
The debate over the benefit of cold air intake upgrade is as old as they are. From everything I have read or experienced the results varied from "increased HP, MPG, etc." to "damn waste of money"
I recently purchased a 2001 Taco which the PO installed a K&N and plan on leaving it in place. Soooooo:confused: Some have a very firm conviction in their belief of the benefit(s) of CAI's. So let my ars chewing begin:p

It look like it's made to fit like that. (All the sensors and hoses like up perfect) it has no space but to go there. That part on top anyone know what that is?

That's the smog pump. They added that I believe in 2011 or 2012. That's why I said They used an older model that isn't compatible with your 2.5 gen. I think there is a bracket to relocate the pump and a wire harness to extend the wires.

Damn I got ya. my 06 did not have it. Makes a funny noise when you turn them off, I will look into that bracket, thanks. .
