Ok guys, I'm really getting confused with this oil W. My taco is a 03 2.4L with 160,000 miles on it. I thought heavier oil is better for a high mileage taco. I use 20-50W in my truck. Now I keep reading that only 5-20W should only be used. So what is the golden answer here???
Thanks!!

Depending where you live or use your truck 5w30 is good for most of the country. 5W20 is better for northern climates like canada. That 20w50 is great for harelys, but not very good for a tacoma engine, especially if looking to get any decent fuel economy.

So 5w30 is the winner. I'm old school and always thought heavy oil is best for older auto's. I always use Castrol for everything.
Ok....thank you!

The oil you're using is so thick you're going to damage the engine. Your oil pressure sending unit is going to explode and all your oil is going to dump out the side of the motor. Get that crap out of there. 0w-40 Mobil one is the secret sauce. It gives you terrific oil pressures even when towing, and it won't be molasses at startup. That stuff you put in there create such severe pressure and it's not flowing through the tight orifices. Get it out ASAP and don't ever do that again. Use Purolator synthetic filters or OEM filters from the dealer.

Stop overthinking oil...just use what the manufacture recommends for your climate, and you'll be fine.

I had close to 300k miles on my gen1 tundra that always ran like new. I never believed in those high mileage oils...always used plain old mobil1 5w30, and changed every 15k miles or once a year.

Maintenance is one thing, but when you end up replacing just about every part spending 3 times more than the truck will ever be worth isn't very smart. You do the minimum maintenance required, and sell it before it reaches 200k miles while it's still worth something, or you'll end up in the poor house with not a pot to piss in.
These trucks aren't like muscle cars of the 60's, and 70's.

I hear A new vehicle drops 5k$$ in value once it leaves the new lot o_O
ain't no smarts or sense in that there is there

It's more like 1/2 that after leaving the lot. My 2020 is now 6 years old, and it's still listed at $31k, and change on carfax with the tech packages, and all....thats a little over a $1k a year depreciation. Thats not horrible, and I still have a like new running truck that just turned 37k miles.
You're stuck with a high mileage nearly 30 year old worn out truck that can have better than fair chance to break down at any given time thats worth zilch unless you can find a buyer thats dumber than a box of rocks who wants it.
