Recharging my ac

You can have the system vacuumed. Repair it and fill it yourself cheaper then having it done. Likely cost $25 to have the system vacuumed. I was dealing with a system that had nothing in it. Remember that you may need to add oil if you replace something like the condenser. Where a hose there would be no need.

I guess I need to spell it out as that's what I was saying. Take it to a shop and have it evacuated. Then you can repair it yourself safely.
 
Lots of good advise above!! I just fixed my own system... with two kids in college, I'm not paying big bucks$$$. I'll do it myself.
