Tailgate Rust ???

Took my 2008 Tacoma to the car wash to power wash the underside and frame. Trying to get the road salt off as best as I can. Does anyone have problems with the bottom of the tailgate rusting. In the inside at the very bottom??? I wanna address this before it bubbles out the bottom front of my tailgate.

I have only heard of frame issues. I would treat the inside of the tailgate as preventative rust protection.

Does waxing the body help combat rust?

I keep the truck waxed using turtle wax ice. It appears only at the bottom inside.. The spot were the tailgate meets the bed. I plan on using extend, then prime and paint.
