You'll know it when you have a ball joint failure like in the video, plus if an everyday driver, you got to know when to hold them, and when to fold them when it comes to those old trucks, or they will nickel, and dime you till your broke, or on foot.:(
 
there was a recall for my 2004 tacoma to replace the lower ball joints, maybe investigation into that you may get them replaced by Yota under a recall if your year matches up, might be worth looking into it

Perhaps there was a different design those years?

They have both been changed once and one side it's been twice now with the roached bearing the dumbazz brake shop didn't spot when it had sketchy braking issues

BS, I doubt if thats true....many recalls on those trucks have long expired. For one try getting a new frame if your 20 year old one had rotted out. I have a fuel pump recall on my truck, but it's not forever. As long as the original one still functions fine their're not going to replace it.
 
I would think rotted out frames, and faulty fuel pumps are safety recalls. Toyota might inspect some of that stuff, but if ok, they are not going to replace it....and I don't even think it would apply to a 25 year old vehicle.
Heck if the manufacture claims that part is no longer made for your 15-25 year old truck, your sol, safety recall, or not.

I had a 2004 TRD tacoma 4x4 had the LBJ's replaced(recall) by Toyota never had a problem with them made 200k miles +++ what ever brand they used worked flawlessly for that time
 
I had a frame recall on my 2001 tundra...it had free replacement within 10 years. I took the recall to the dealer several years later before the offer expired. They did their multi-point inspection only replacing the spare tire cross member, saying the rest of the frame was fine. I still questioned why the entire frame wasn't changed if the tsb I got through the mail stated it would be. They said it's up to the dealers discretion.... safety recall, or not. Its basically the same for this tsb fuel pump recall on my gen3 tacoma.
