It isn't a long weekend here in Canada. But I am so happy that you are remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, so we have a good life.
Many died in service, for the rest of us!
God Bless all of you brave women and men!!!

Not a day goes by without me thinking about them, and missing them!
Every Memorial Day I come back to this..............
Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.
Dear Madam,
I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.
I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln.
That letter comes to me every year. Don't know why......[emoji22] thank you for sharing this, B-Man. it is truly humbling to think about all the letters of condolence that have been written for our fallen soldiers over the years.

"you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle."
that statement alone would make it memorable.
Agree with ya, S!Its wierd to say Happy Memorial Day. Many people treat it like Veterans Day, but the two couldn't be more different. I'm not one to throw Memorial Dat parties ot even have a cookout. For me it's a day to sit. Back and remember, reflect, be supportive to those families of our fallen heroes. So! Its Memorial Day folks - let us not forget.[emoji25]
