What is the difference if you have 15 to 18" wheels?

Why does Toyota go from 15, to 16, to 18 inch wheels?

Can someone please explain the benefits of larger wheels if there is one ?

Also, can 6 lug wheels be interchangeable on the first generation Tacoma’s?

I would like to hear the pros/cons on the subject because it makes no sense to me whatsoever.

People put on 2nd gen rims onto 1st gens all the time.

Thanks for your reply (I didn't know that), I don't seem to attract many people to answer my questions here.

I asked this question because my 1999 TRD came from the dealer with 15 inch wheels and 31x10.5Rx15 tires and I absolutely loved them, never had a problem after I switched brands and got good gas mileage (21-22 MPG overall), with correct tuning.

Now I am possibly getting a 2001 TRD ( waiting on seller) and absolutely hate the rims that are on it so I intend to replace the rims with after market or factory wheels (now) and new tires.
An after market wheel I like is made by a company called "Fuel"

The only thing is I want them made out of aluminium and I have to call them to see if they are.
I live in the rust belt so don't want steel anything.:sad:

15 and 16 are better for offroading, 18 is better for street.
The more air inside the tire on the 15 and 16's will give a little better ride then 18's.
