Which Taco should I get

There are a lot of varying opinions. If you're planning on doing overlanding mods, you're likely to find that any trim level will suit your needs. There are definitely some clowns who think that the offroad is the only trim level that can handle being off the country club blvd, and that the sport is the equivalent of a PT cruiser. You'll find in your research that this isn't the case, and that any TRD trim level is going to be fully capable of handling what you throw at it, especially if you're modifying your truck to overland (lift, tires, sliders etc). Moral of the story: you probably can't go wrong. Pick what you like.
The rear locker helps though. Front would be nice.

Here she is. I’m super impressed by this truck. Holding back on crazy mods until I get some $$$ saved. Would like to get some insight on lighting and will create a separate thread

You must have a sport and regret not getting an off road or pro. The traction control toyota uses is good on hard surfaces no doubt. It brakes on the side that is slipping so it can send power to the other side. Once it gets slippery, it falls on its face. Cant move forward if neither side has decent traction. Turn off traction control and u have an open diff. In my opinion, 4wd is worthless with open diff.

Agree 100%. I have the sport and really really miss having a locker,... I've gotten everywhere I've needed to go, but it was much easier with a locker.

Absolutely. The locking rear diff, crawl control, etc definitely makes life easier but I’ve never had trouble getting where I was going without it.
A lot of it depends on the tires on the rig and the person driving.

My right big toe is my "crawl control" but I getcha. [emoji23] I hope to eventually have front and rear lockers but I'll just finesse it until then. Haha

I have a sport and 100% don’t regret it. I picked it on purpose because it was seven thousand dollars cheaper in my scenario. I have gotten everywhere I’ve needed to go, never had any problems. Thanks for the predictable condescension though!

I also think that only being able to use your locker in 4low is useless. [emoji23]

Not completely. It does take the fun away though lol. I was bummed when I found out it can only be used in 4lo. Maybe my situations are awkward. Where I would struggle or get stuck in my wife’s ex-4runner, i passed right through in my tacoma. I have to put it in 4lo and lock lol. I run sandy muddy creeks maybe once a year. Nothing crazy, just slippery situations

Even Atrac could not go through this if it was wet. Gotta have the locker. Or haul ass through it with traction control kicking on and not let u spin the wheels, or traction control off with open diffs... i can see where y’all may not need it. Maybe you live somewhere with a couple miles of dirt road. It’s still a road and just about anything with 4wd or 2wd lock can get through. Locker is a must “off” road. No rocking back and forth on a rock waiting on traction control do its thing either

My last 2 Tacoma's were off roads and I did the anytime locker mod on both of them. I like having all my options. Lol. Not sure if anyone has figured it out on the 3rd gen but I am happy with my sport, will be even happier with lockers and 4.88's. Lol
