We have a VA center north of us in Grand Island.....takes all day just for a routine physical. Any surgeries are transferred to the VA in Omaha. There's alot of vets who opt out of the Omaha trip to have done with General MD. Might be more cost but way less hassle.

It’s getting better slowly. There’s actually a lot of oversight into the system for patient advocacy.
There’s still a lot of bureaucratic baggage in the system that needs flushed out.
I worked for the VA for many years. I actually couldn’t stand the poor patient outcomes (especially as a combat wounded veteran). Seeing brothers in arms get poor care is something I can’t handle. It is getting better though.

I worked at the one in Grand Island too for a short time.....like you said.......poor care......tried my best to change that but the 'bereaucratic baggage' as you describe it was more than I could change. Hope the systems improves because our vets deserve only the best care.

Access to private healthcare, the “50 mile rule” helps. It lets guys that live far out to get care.
Here in WV (as in a lot of states I’m sure) it’s 50 miles to anywhere.
