Won't Run

I have a 2008 4cyl automatic with 102k miles on it. I had it worked on by someone who obviously didn't know what they were doing. It came back running rough and would only keep running by pumping the gas. All the dash lights were on when the key was turned. I found a loose ground in the fuse box and fixed that and now the lights act normally. I could keep it running by pouring gas down the intake. When the key is on I can hear a buzzing I assume is the fuel pump. Maybe I'm wrong. It was running great before the garage got hold of it. The AC was the problem when it went there. Now?

Any one point me in the right direction?

The direction I would go would be straight back to that garage.
If it wasn’t running that way to begin with than it shouldn’t be running that way now.
It may be coincidence that you’ve started having issues after someone was under the hood tweaking with the AC. But coincidences are rare.
Hate that for you man. That sucks for real. I’d definitely be having a serious conversation with the garage owner.

When it started running rough at begining before the shop what was the symptom's then ? Have you done basic tune up stuff other than oil ? Ever change spark plugs ?

    Welcome to the forum.
^ yep that’s where I would be going back to whoever messed with it and made it run crappy. Unless they aren’t capable of fixing vehicles and you don’t trust them to touch your truck again. I would look at connections. Make sure everything is connected where it’s suppose to be. Then I would start looking at This

Can't take it back. They went out of business. Before it went to the shop the only problem was AC was not blowing cold. Now, assuming I need to get it running for the least amount of money does anyone have a starting point based on the symptoms? Maintenance has been done.

I'm glad you spent so long here, jump on, ask a question, expect a diagnosis on"it won't run" , then say no one cares cause we can't tell you how to fix it. Good luck in youre search.

Sorry you weren’t happy with the forum. With more facts we would probably get closer to fixing the problem. Thank you for giving us a shot. Hope you get it fixed

If you have to feed it fuel, then obviously you have found what your issue is revolving around.

You don't need a useless forum anyhoo...

"Doc, something's wrong with me, fix it!"

"Well, what are your symtoms? What have you been doing recently?"

    "You're useless, Doc..."

    Dafaq outta here!

So... you don’t get the exact answer you’re looking for so you get mad?
If you know that it will only run when you feed it fuel you’re already narrowed down to the issue.
You said the fuel pump sounds as if it is kicking on. Did you check your fuel lines to see if it was feeding? Filter? Throttle position sensor? How long has the truck been sitting? Is it a daily driver?
There’s just a few issues that could cause the truck not to be getting fuel to the motor..... you’ve narrowed it down.
We’ve tried to help you with the information that you provided, which was not much. You pretty well just told us that a garage screwed up your truck after they worked on the AC and the garage is no longer in business.
    Here’s the main questions then...
Was the truck running fine when you left the shop?
If not did the garage go out of business the day you picked your truck up?
If it was the garage that screwed your truck up how did you not notice the issues when you picked it up and paid them for the work since this is a deadline issue that keeps your truck from running?
If this truck has been sitting a while then it could be something as simple as a seized up fuel pump. Gas will varnish over a pump and gum up the lines if it sits stagnant for a period of time.
You portrayed this issue as if it was the garage that screwed your truck up. If that is the case then the garage is obligated to repair what they broke for litigious reasons I would think. It wouldn’t be hard to prove in civil court that you drove a vehicle to a shop for AC repair and it wouldn’t run after they had it. It would seem stupid that an auto repair garage would “fix” a vehicle and it leaves the shop not running.
So after all this it seems that either:
    A. The garage didn’t screw up your truck and you’re placing blame where it isn’t due.
    B. You paid someone money that deadlined your truck and waited long enough to complain about it that the garage has went out of business. Which is crazy.
You’re expecting someone to diagnose your truck via the Internet. We will help all we can. But we can only answer with the information provided. Don’t get all bent out of shape because we recommend you getting the people that supposedly jacked up your truck to fix it. That’s the logical thing to do.
But that’s fine, there’s plenty of other forums out there. Go post the exact same first post on Tacoma World and see what answers you get. I guarantee that they won’t be near as friendly about it.
    Agreed.

Lol I may have said the same bs to a customer a time or two. It’s hard to fix something when you ask a question and whom ever can’t or won’t answer the question. I deal with it at least once a week. It gets old. For the record I had to google the word chivalrous and make sure you weren’t calling me something bad. Lmao

I don’t know man. Some people....
You saw my long post earlier in this thread. If the OP would have worded it differently instead of blaming a garage he would have got the advice requested.

I work part time at a parts store and it never sieces to amaze me the people that come into the store thinking that we are going to tell them what's wrong with their vehicle. Sure, we can read the codes and tell them a direction to start looking but thats where it ends. I swear, some people shouldn't even be allowed to have a car key. The ones that really get me are the obes that say I've got a bad battery or my alternators bad or something, my battery won't stay charged. So ya go out to check the battery, open the hood, and the first thing you see is a wiring job that looks like a 2 year old engineered. Whats all this about, oh man, that's for my music, you know, my toons. Yeah right, thats yoyre problem right there. Oh man, gotta have my music.
