When there's salt on my roads, maybe twice a year, I drive the AWD or FWD vehicle and leave the RWD trucks home. I prefer controlled fishtailing instead of RWD on ice fishtailing.

Embarrasingly NO. Fords. In my defense I am looking for a Toyota SUV so I can sell the turbo Ford SUV. Nothing wrong with the Fords but I just feel dirty when I drive them. I have a very very very very long history of owning both Toyota and Ford vehicles. Had good luck with both. Since I am blabbing my dirty secrets I must confess that I had a passion for LT1 Z28's for a few years too (while still owning a Toyota and a Ford). Guess I am just a skank when it comes to vehicles. A two-timer or a car-gigilo if you will.
 
The 16 inch stock wheels were peeling and cruddy plus I like using Toyota wheels on a Toyota. Helps that I bought this set of wheels and tires, with only 50 miles on them, for $400. 2 new tires would have cost that much.
 
i'd like the oem yota wheels on my rig refinished (abrasions and mildish corrosion), alloy wheel repair was estimated around 700$ a couple years ago
other pricey repairs and maintenance have been needed, however...
still waiting for the yota warehouse dealers to clearance markdown the new OEM wheels more, they are STILL +400$ each :mad: MSRP 583$

My OEM 17" wheels had peeling and extensive surface corrosion. I did the refurb and paint. Its a lot of work to strip the OEM coating to the aluminum. I tried chemical strippers......didn't phase the coating. Ended up, after several trials, using a series of wire wheels on a small angle grinder. The stripping took roughly 5-6 hours per wheel. Prep for paint was about 1 hour per wheel.

I used Sherwin-Williams automotive paints. All were 2K type paints. Primer, color, clear coat. All the paint cost close to $400. Entering the 3rd winter road schmutz and the wheels show no signs of degradation. I'm pleased with the results and much less expensive than new wheels.

On the truck.....

Color is not black. A dark gunmetal grey with a bit of metal flake with a satin clear coat.

Usually those japanese manufactures do just the opposite...as their inventory dwindles, the price on the part goes up. They figure if you want it bad enough, you'll pay their price.

It's too bad these used 15" used salvaged mucked up worse than mine are dime a dozen out there!
 
The wheels on my tundra were in real sad shape when i sold the truck. There was a wheel reproduction company that manufactured the same looking wheels for about 1/2 the cost i was looking into years ago that my buddies body shop recommended i check into....just can't remember their name.
 
I make an effort to hose road salt off wheel routinely... Such as I did today so much salt out today
It the inside of wheels I didn't hose out so well

I had the wheels on my tacoma professionally ceramic coated hoping i'd a couple more years from them before the finish begins peeling off. So far after 2 salty winters heading into a 3rd, they look great.
 
i wonder how long the Gen2 steelies will survive before looking like rubbish!

Knda depends on how well the owner maintains them.


Use rim weights, leave 'em dirty, ignore chips, bang against curbs...... You can expect short life.

Take care with basic maintenance and they will last.

I suppose the salt sitting upon eats right thru the coating!
Spray them with road salt neutralize r?
