noticeable increase in fuel consumption, losing 50 tacoMiles per tank of tacoJuice... what is going on?

Never mind, just keep whining about it till your walking.....Your into it too deep, i've come to the conclusion any sound advice is useless.

You can like the old stuff which was nice in its day, but until you actually own, and drive the newer stuff. The ride, and performance of tacoma's today are like comparing an old 55 chevy to a spaceship. I'll make you forget all about what you had.
I admit I'm useless when it comes to taking pics, but I never needed a camera for anything, but I do need a good vehicle for all my needs....I try not to skimp there. Just finished this morning unloading, and racking in all my truckloads of topsoil...its time to remove my tonneau cover, and flush all the remaining dirt from my bed. What a pita job.

My old '02 Taco is still doing 60 miles a day round trip Monday through Friday sometimes more than that on the days when I go to the bank once a week after work like I did today, then it adds up to about 70 miles! It's a very dependable little truck! Kicks right off as soon as I turn the key!

I took a test ride in a 4th gen some months back....even dragged raced one over a short distance with my 3rd gen. They ride a little nicer than my 3rd gen with that 4 link rear suspension, and make more bottom end once the turbo spools up which takes an extra second or so with a big mid-range. I was pretty impressed for a 4 banger. If I needed a new truck I'd take a serious look at one, but for now my 3rd gen runs so well, it's not enough to make me buy one yet. For what its worth, the 4th gen reminds me of a baby tundra.

My friend has a 2012 it just turned 50k it's mint, original tires and brakes all around ! He just retired from being head mechanic at the electric company keeping about 350 vehicles on the road between the 4 garages they have, so it didn't travel to far. It black extended cab long bed.

Doesn't your friend know if he's on tires that old he's got a death wish if one blows out at highway speeds. Tires that old might look ok on the outside, but can rot from the inside where you'll never see it.

this still has not sorted itself all out o_O
why the 3mpg drop?

could barely get 300 miles on the full tank with the winterblended tacoJuice yesterday

I'm getting around 417 per tank.just for shats and giggles undo the battery cables and touch them together of course not while on battery let it sit awhile then hook them back up and see what happens. I was told it makes the computer relearn you driving habits? Kinda like adjusting the carb lol :)

I get around 330-340 miles to an average 15 gallon fillup with my 3rd gen depending if winter, or summer driving a a combination of some city, and mostly secondary highway roads while keeping speeds under 60 mph, except when on the interstate where it can get pretty crazy. I never ran my fuel tank down lower....best way to fry your fuel pump by running the tank near dry.
Another thing that will skew your odo, and speedo reading is larger tires that will end up giving you false fuel mileage.
Whats hilarious is believing our trucks fuel gauge the computer does. Brings one back to reality if they do the actual math.
As far as jay's issue, his old worn out gen1 doesn't have the electronics our trucks have to relearn driving habits...his is old school with a manual transmission.
