Thinking of trading in

Hey,
I have a 2015 TRD Off-road 4 door. It’s got 119000 on the clock and I’ve had some minor issues, nothing crazy. Throwout bearing causes me to replace the clutch. Front wheel bearing went. A couple small inconvenience things too. Over all I like the truck.
I’m thinking of trading in for a 2021 Tacoma. Not sure what model though. I can build the SR5 with what I want to save money but would I really be missing anything from the TRD line? Are there any cons (other than cost) to look at the 2021? Any quirks with the new ones? Sorry for the stupid questions. But I thought I’d ask the masses.

No question is stupid TacoD. That’s a big decision and big investment!
I’m sure you know,SR5,,,TRDPro—-same frame,same engine,,TRD Pro has many more bells and whistles that your paying Big money for!
If you don’t need heated seats,Blinkers in your side mirrors,over head camera,Crawl Control,,etc.the SR5 you can mod yourself,as you like it.
I have a17 Sport,no Crawl Control but l knew I didn’t want or need it. Love the Truck..Hopefully some Members with the 2021 will chime in and give you there input but good luck with your decision. Post some pics of the 15 and the new one if your pull the trigger.
 
I'm all for keeping vehicles as long as you can but there's never been a better time to trade in a vehicle. I had a 2019 RAV4 LE that I paid $22,600 for. It had 36K miles on it and CarMax offered me $26,800. It's insane what used cars are going for.
 
I no longer do any serious off road driving and bought a 2020 sr5 which has been flawless...best toyota truck i've had. Living here in connecticut we have all 4 seasons from hot summers to cold winters, and all the mud inbetween. I've taken it fishing to get through some really crappy places and its an amazing truck. Where my tundra got stuck with really good tires in 4wd, this taco will go through without an issue....sometimes only in 2wd.

Do you like the 3.5? Do you have auto or manual trans?
 
My sport has the auto,,they say it’s a Learning Transmission,,who knows?
Plenty of power with the 3.5L,no complaints. Everyone complains about the lag on take off,which seems to be in the Programming..I installed the Sprint Booster in mine,took away all the lag,,runs great.. I also don’t do any off roading,more of a daily driver. Had a couple of heavy Snows,,drove in 4high with no issues.

Mine is a daily driver. I frequent dirt roads and hills but this truck isn’t an off road rig. I’m looking to order a Tacoma. I’m wondering if I should start with the SR5 and add what I want or but a TRD that has extras built in.
 
I love my '16 sport auto and like the 3.5, bought it in Feb of 2018 it had 19k on it .I love everything about it but not crazy about sunroof since I'm 6'1" if I sit up straight my hair brushes ceiling. It just turned 44 k no issues. It has all the goodies in it .I do plan on a sprint booster install. I had my 03 tundra for 13 years only had to fix steering rack and timing belt .it had 135 k on it and its still running around town .The guy loves it too. Its a Toyota after all!:) its a 4 door long bed. My kayaks fit nice in it. Shortbed would not be all that useable to me. We go out on the beach with it here on cape cod and usually run in 2wd, and shift it manually.no problems.20210928_184428~3.jpg

How many miles before the throw out bearing went out?:(
 
I went with the TRD OR. I looked at the other models and decided on it. Anything above the OR was too much money for what it had. The other models didn't have as much included that I wanted or figured I would like to have. I didn't want the leather seats, upgraded audio, sunroof (just a big hole in the roof that will eventually leak is how I see them). And I didn't want the cosmetic add-ons. I am more of a function over form person.

A lot of the reviews I saw on the 4 cylinder engine praised it for being insanely reliable. Not as many people gave the V6 as much praise but there was enough to sway me to stick with a V6 model.

Another reason I went with the OR is because I knew I *could* do a lot of mods and upgrades after the fact, the only problem is that I don't have a place to do the work on my truck. And I don't have another vehicle to drive for work if a project takes my Taco out of commission for more than a day.

I use my truck as my daily driver and I do enjoy going off road when I can. Since October 8th I have put just over 5,000 miles on the truck. It is the automatic and yes it does down shift and up shift a lot when I am going up and down hills on the highway. To keep it from doing this I will flip the shifter into the "manual" side and keep it in 5th or 6th.

I have used the off road features a few times but the crawl control scares me by the noises it makes. I have seen many reviews on it and they all say that the noise is normal but I still don't like it.

The SR5 was on my list because it was a lot lower on the price than the OR, but not being able to do much work on the truck myself is what swayed me to get the OR.
