That's really cool. Do you have to travel a lot for that job or is there enough local work to keep you busy?

About 85% is in a 200 mile radius from my home the other 15% can reach all the way up to Northern California and California is big  lol

Gone out to Texas 3 times for some jobs, also Arizona

Jolly, jolly, jolly. Lost my job night before last. Long story short, my boss's wife hates my family (She thinks he "did things" with my little sister.) and said she would take the kids if he didn't sever ties with all of us, so I'm out of a job. I don't blame my boss though, because his wife's got the connections to make sure he never sees his kids again, and I know how important his kids are to him.
So I'm looking for a new job. Still got my newspaper route and scrap metal, but that's not enough. Thinking about joining the service. I'm going to talk to a Coast Guard recruiter soon.

Wow sad to hear that dude! Keep your head up..... Coast Guard is a great career! I have a friend in San Diego that's been with them for years.

It sucks, but I'll get through it. I have to, you know? I'm just worried about during the time being, how is my family going to cope? My meager income was what paid most of the bills- Mom's sick, so she can't work, and my dad is already worked to the bone with his two jobs. Might end up losing power and internet and all of that, again. We've gone three months without power before, so it's not like it would be new. But if I disappear off the internet for a while, y'all know why.
I know someone in the CG as well, and he loves it. He's actually stationed at Scott AFB in Illinois. That would probably be the hardest thing for me, is being so far from my family. But it's looking like all I've got- I don't have the money for school, and I'm not great shakes at any trades, so the military looks like the best option.

I've met soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines that hate their jobs... but never a coastie ahaha

Good luck in what you choose to do

Much thanks, man. Come to think of it, all the Coasties I know love their jobs, too. I have a meeting with the local CG recruiter on Wednesday, so we'll see how that goes.

Currently a student so no source of income at the moment... But after graduation in about a month I will have one :D

What are you studying? What do you want to do when you grow up?

Originally wanted to get into Athletic Training, but switched over to Physical Education major and minoring in Health Promotion and Coaching Sports.

The next plan is to become a certified Physical Therapist Assistant and work my way into the field there

I work for a company called Victory Steel. I am in charge of the entire shipping and receiving of all of the steel, the trucking schedule, optimizing the cuts of the steel so there is not much scrap or remenants. Then I decide who in the shop gets the steel to cut. It is a very high paced/ controlled stress job. I am currently in charge of about 4 million ton of steel.

I'm a photographer. Been shooting everything from commercial through to weddings for the last six years or so. I also do photo retouching for a locally based adult website. It pays the bills!

Studio photographer for clothing retailer, Wet Seal Inc. but still do freelance on weekends.

Also shoot the local desert races like MORE and HDRA.

Joining the Navy was one of the best things I ever did. Good luck!!
