Undercoating

'99 T4R
this is one of the strangest undercarriages I have ever seen... things just do not add up
its probably not ever driven much in Illinois winters.., IDK

Maybe it's the lighting?
I like using halogen light under my rig coz anything suspect turns a reddish hue like in that video

Yeqh
The LED-type flashlights/shop lights just cannot seem to get it to that reddish color it seems
When you want to be thorough

so what do you think all this is here underneath this rig ?

black woolWax
black Cosmoline
POR-15
BedLiner spray?
other type of treatment or paint? Rustoleum or something of the sorts?

the transfer case underneath my rig is not so crusty at all like this one!, suppose i ought to give it a good clear RC3K spray to keep it from getting the crusties like this rig

Gotta ask the owner what rust inhibiter used. Any of the lanolin ones would need to be redone often.

it is sprayed underneath the cab and bed + spare tire edge so it was likely a professional job would you say?
this taco is 4 sale somewhere out there not sure where

If linex i don't think that wouldn't be good, as its asphalt based. If it becomes hard, and cracks, or chips, moisture will enter creating pockets of rust.

I wire brushed my 03 tundra and primed it painted and used a rustoleum truck liner on it and it lasted for years just touched it up once in a while. Had no problems.

I guess if your religious keeping up with it thats one thing, but the average owner probably wouldn't if their vehicle had that stuff on it. You need to use coatings that are self healing.

i had my taco rubber-undercoated winter protected from the dealer before i took delivery in May '97
yeah... i was one of THOSE people
the look in my eyes one day a few years back when i wheeled into the Yota dealer to get a no-charge alignment check and they brought me back pics of all this liquid under my rig saying they did not have a clue where all this stuff was leaking from! and they needed to wash it all off to check 4 leaks
i was experimenting with FF LOL
the techs had not ever seen such stuff before

A rubberized undercoating is the nastiest type undercoating imo that one can get. You can't service anything thats been coated with that crap, plus once it chips, water and salt get underneath it rotting out your chassis.

I was looking for the pics what it did to my taco once most of the the coating fell off after 22 years lol

With the rubberized undercoating most frames fell apart after 10 years.
My area in western Iowa is approximately 22 years to total devastation from some gory pics I found at the local salvage lot from some old 90s tacos that got away from Toyota buyback hide em away so nobody will ever see them in the crusher
Ripped out from under them in a violent fashion and had to be abandoned on the road :(
#rustporn

That black cosmoline definitely doesn't do to salt what the other products do
