? Where is the Gen1 Taco traffic at ?

Depends who you ask, or hang out with. Around here they're just another pickup truck....same for any gen tacoma. Old muscle cars are the big attraction, and big dollars.

A friend of mine with his son stopped by yesterday with the kids 2003 gen1 tacoma. They finally got it back on the road with used junkyard 4cyl. engine. The kid was happier than a pig in fresh mud to get the truck running again. He even gave me a short ride in it. All was good, I was happy for the kid. I forgot how these old trucks rode...it was like going back in time to a 55 chevy vs my gen3. You get very spoiled in these newer tacoma's.

Crap, a friend of mine just left a message for me if I could take a look at his kids gen1 tacoma thats been running ok with a used junkyard engine for a couple months now. Says it's whining like hell when he drives it. I'll take a ride over later this afternoon to check it out. Friggin gen1 owners can't seem to get enough pain with those lumber wagons. If they'd just save their money instead of keep throwing it away into those 20+ year old rust buckets, they could own something much newer, and nicer by now.

I took a look at his gen1....I'd bet the farm its a transmission output shaft bearing gone south thats making a bunch of whining noise...you could feel the vibration in the shifter to. Poor kid just got done forking over $5k for an engine swap, and now the trucks gotta come apart again to likely rebuild the 5 speed transmission. Idk what it is about a gen1...maybe they were good in their day, but as they get older, they're nothing special. Seems a lot of low educated owners now gravitate toward them. I may have given him some incentive to unload that pos, after letting him take a test drive in my truck. He was completely shocked it was a tacoma he drove...said it was like riding in a caddy with big power compared to what he was use to.

Yeah, older worn out gen1's are. All I can say is, it just enforces that I made a good decision to get rid of my gen1 tundra when the getting was good. It's been some months since I last saw its new owner using it.

It real tough to beat a vintage classic

The 1st gen2 turn 20 years old this very year 30 years of the gen1
