a new chapter begins... the road to 400k

Have you looked at Napa cv axle vs Toyota OEM cv axle !?!
Yes, I have. FWIW, I just installed CV axles from NAPA. Slid in without any problems. Fit and finish matched the Toyota CV axles I removed.

BTW, those locking castle rings are absolutely reusable. The cotter pin.....probably should be replaced.

Yes I see just the cotter key is the non reusable part
I have no clue if that key pin is the original removed from that side or just a used one grabbed off the shelf
Or used from the other side that had new bearing and hub replaced last month??

In no way did it exactly such match the proper cotter key bot from dealer parts and tried to use but it failed because axle hole way too big not fit to OEM spec

Best to start running in 4WD in heavy winter mix like that................

Or stay off the roads until the snow plows clear a path.

Hope you can manage degraded road conditions.

trucks been impaired for eight days now trying to fix this crap
I do not have proper tool to get at that front diff fill check plug

TekTon to the rescue in three
Lowe's either did not have proper tool
Or what they had for was many dollars more than TekTon

Yes a 10mm hex key in 1/2 inch drive
Plus a 1/2" wobbly universal to clear a plate I cannot seem to remove because I don't have a good tool for that either!

At lowes, or home cheapo, they sell individual tool bits whatever size you need. I can't recall where...maybe when I was at a true value hardware store years ago, i bought a 3/8'', and 1/2'' sets of hex socket tool's. They are metric, and standard american sizes. Never looked who made them, but the chrome finish and quality looked good. I've used them fairly often, and have not damaged a one. I'll have to check who manufacture them.

So I suppose that 12mm stubby will do that task, it's a tight very tight spot to get at

Suggest having a replacement plug and gasket on hand. You'll likely bugger that one before you get it off.

I resorted to a 3 lb hammer and a cold chisel to get the front diff drain plug out. I think it had never been removed in 108,xxx miles.

Brute force, awkwardness, blue words and a bloody knuckle were required.

Hopefully that front diff plug(s) is not overly torqued from the last guy that wrenched onit about a year ago
