Ok, all this financial advice and all this commotion about who paid what and all that is crap. Everyone is different...
I bought my 05 for $9500 with a supposedly bad transmission. A $12 teflon shifter puck and 30 minutes and it was back on the road, I've put 160k on it trouble free. My son now drives it and I bought a 2013 Baja dcsb, love it. My oldest has a 2015 he paid cash for and he is in the Marine Corp, does not make squat for pay, but saves and lives on base to buy the things he wants. I personally work for the State of California and own my own house, so yeah, I make good money but ain't rich. But duning and wheeling are my life, so I pay for my truck and nothing else. Money? Savings? Sure...but I financed mine at 2.54% thru USAA (prior service, USMC). There are deals and rates out there, you just have to find them. Oh, my truck payment? 389. And it's paid off shortly, like 18 months. But, like I said, my truck is my recreation, I don't have boats and fancy cars, just off road buggies and a couple of old quads for the kids. I also build most of that in my spare time. I also build stuff for others to buy fancy stuff in boxes to make people guess what is in them...lol.
Lastly, my daughter just got out of the Navy a week ago and she is going to buy a 2007 Access cab today. All of these Tacomas are TRD Off Roads and I personally equip them with blenders for margaritas when we go duning...that is about all that little generator will run.
Last comment I want to make, any job is a good job, and we have kids here in Oregon driving Tacomas. They save and buy used ones from Craigslist mostly, as dealerships are insanely overpriced. I work on their rigs building bumpers and such, suspension work and even a few lifts/long travel kits. A good used low mileage (120-130k) V6 goes between 10-16k and are well worth the investment. They are cheap to maintain comparatively and either engine offerings go 300k before major repairs are a factor. So do your research, save your $ or finance it, all worth the effort to buy arguably the best truck ever made...and I am a Ford guy...67 Bronco sitting in the driveway and I still take the Tacomas out all the time.
Thank you to your family for their service.
Next new vehicle will go like this:

Put money down
Make the monthly payment
I just bought a 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro Off-Road built to MY specs two weeks ago for about $4K less than MSRP. *I* was happy with the deal and the salesman was happy with the deal, so it doesn't really matter what I paid for it. I was very fortunate that I received an unexpected inheritance from a 101 year old aunt who died last year, and was able to pay cash for my TRD. I'm retired and debt-free, and thanks to my aunt, I was able to STAY that way. <smile> My first tank of gas averaged 22.9 mpg for combo city/freeway driving, so I was VERY pleased with that! I have a 4x4 park near me that I'll check out in a couple of weeks when it won't be so busy like the 4th weekend, but I imagine I'll be pleased there too. >GRIN< I'm not rich monetarily, but in more ways than money can buy. God Bless the USA!
Sounds like a great life. Welcome to the forum.
Take some pictures when you take her out to the 4x4 park.
Life IS good, and I intend to enjoy what I have left of it! <g> Will do on the 4x4 park! The park has 300 acres of 1 black diamond up to six black diamonds in difficulty. Since my Tacoma is still spanking new, I imagine I'll stick to the "bunny" slopes for the first few times, since I don't want to get it bashed or dinged. Mud at least washes off. <smile>
Saved up 8000 grand for the deposit. Got the payments at 500 month for 5 yrs.
Joined the Army, paid off my student loans, saved money by living within my means, bought a used Taco, paid that off quickly, loved it dearly, got out of the Army with a graduate degree, got a civi job as a biologist, started an Etsy business on the side, traded in Taco for a new one.....I have 0 debt except for a mortgage making less than 50k a year. I don't need avocado on my toast Hahahahahahaha and I don't like shopping.
Thank you for your service.
Holy shit i added d rings from mil surplus store for 2 bucks each
I don't know why you would order it that way but I'm sure someone somewhere has. All the add on's add up.
The limited built the same way is $200 more than the TRDORDCLB and the Pro is $2000 cheaper.
Yes!! I opted out of those options and bought weathertech floor mats, my own window guards, etc etc. Saved me a bunch of money!
